End of Summer Reading Program celebration
Wednesday, August 20, 6:30 p.m.
Join us as we celebrate the end of the Summer Reading Program, and have one more chance to Catch the Reading Bug at the O’ Club, 641 Redline Drive.

Walk a Mile for Literacy
Saturday, September 13, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Alameda Reads will host our first ever Walk-A-Mile For Literacy. This family oriented event will act as both a fundraiser for our Adult Literacy program and as a means to raise awareness of literacy issues in the City of Alameda. Active Afternoons @ the Alameda Free Library
Wednesdays, 3-4 p.m. Main Library, Stafford Meeting Room.
Calling all teens in grades 6-12: Show off your gaming skills and get your game on at the library. All teens attending this program must have a library card. For more info, call 510-747-7713.

Mac Users Group
Second and Fourth Fridays. 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Main Library, Stafford Meeting Room B.

Free Homework Coaching This program is on break for the summer.
Free homework coaching on all subjects for students in grades Kindergarten through 5th is being offered at the Main Library, the West End Library and the Bay Farm Island Library. After school, from 3:30 to 5:00, high school students are available to help younger students with their homework. The program is offered on school days, except for minimum days and test days, from October 1, 2007 through May 2, 2008. Please contact each library for schedule coaching availability.

Teen Book Group
Choose which books to read and talk about, socialize (snack provided), receive your own paperback copy of each book! Sign up at the Main Library Reference Desk or call 510-747-7713. Sponsored by the Friends of the Alameda Free Library.

Teen Writing Club
First Saturdays, 2:30-4:00 p.m. Have you ever wanted to write a novel? 8th-12th graders are welcome to join the Teen Writing Club at the Alameda Free Library. We will be writing and editing each other’s work, while making friends and having fun! Bring a short piece of writing to share. For more information, please call 510-747-7755.

Alameda Library Book Club
Everyone is welcome! This book group meets the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Family Study Room, at the Main Library. Call 510-747-7713 for the month's current book information or any other questions.

Lawyers in the Library
Local attorneys, through the Alameda County Bar Association, offer free legal assistance and referral the first Wednesday night of each month. First come, first served, sign-ups begin at 5:30 p.m. at the main check out desk then move upstairs to the Reference Department at 6:00 p.m. Call the Reference Department 510-747-7713 for more details.

Mama Goose Infant/Toddler Storytime (ages 1-3 yrs.)

Aunty Lan Lan's Storytime (Mandarin/English Bilingual Storytime) (ages 3-6 yrs.)
Every other Saturday, 11:00 - 11:30 a.m., Bay Farm Island Library. Pick up a schedule of dates at any library or call 510-747-7787.

Community Sing Along (ages 0-3 yrs.)
Mondays and Fridays, 10:15-11 a.m., Main Library. Infants and toddlers, along with their parents and caregivers, will join in forty-five minutes of parent-led singing, dancing, shaker play, and parachute time.

Russian Storytime (all ages) This program is on break for the summer.
Every other Monday, 7 p.m. through May 19, Main Library. Children of all ages are invited to listen, speak, and sing Russian. For schedule or for more information, please call 510-747-7705.

Japanese Storytime (all ages) This program is on break for the summer.
