Library Purchase Suggestion

If you would like the Library to consider purchasing a title that isn't currently in our collection or any of the Link+ collection, please fill out this form.  If you're unsure if we own a copy, please check the Library Catalog first. Requests for material owned by the Library can be done directly in the Library Catalog.

Things to know about purchase suggestions

We can’t guarantee the item will be purchased

We appreciate and value your input! However, there are many factors that go into purchase decisions. Submitting a request does not guarantee we will purchase the item.

Items can only be requested on or after the publication date

We will only accept purchase suggestions for items that have already been published.  (Amazon.com is a good place to find out if and when an item is going to be published.) If you are looking for popular, upcoming titles, don’t worry, our Collection Planners are also looking at new, popular books and will most likely purchase them anyway. You may still place a hold on an item from our catalog after the item has been ordered.

What happens after I submit a Purchase Suggestion?

If we decide to purchase the item you suggested it will take about 6 - 8 weeks for the item to be ordered, cataloged, and processed.  We will place a hold on your item and you will receive a notification when the item is ready for pick up.

Due to the volume of requests we cannot purchase every suggested item and we cannot notify you if we do not order an item you suggest. If you do not hear back within 6-8 weeks or you need an item sooner please consider using Link + to borrow the item.

How do I suggest a purchase for an eBook or eAudiobook?

If you would like to suggest an eBook or eAudiobook please search for it on Libby. If it is not available through the Alameda Free Library please click “Recommend” under the image of the title. When you recommend an eBook on Libby a hold is automatically placed for you if your suggestion is purchased.
